I have a favorite historical anecdote.
Driving on a forest road knight, behind him sits his Lady-love. Here leaves the Black Knight and says “This is my road! For travel on it, I’ll take all your money and rape your Lady love!”.
Cowardly knight looks that the Black Knight is big and the armor he had better of his own, and says, “Okay.” Gives money and goes to meet the Black Knight with his Lady in the bushes.
After a couple of hours they’re going on. The lady indignantly, “how could you do that?! You’re a coward, a scoundrel, schmuck!”
In response, the knight, “don’t worry, dear, I spat on his cloak”…
All these doping scandals and other vile intrigues of the United States around the participation of Russian athletes in the Olympics is just such a “spitting on the cloak.”

Ordinary Americans (often very sensible) can only jiving this way, because rationally explain such stupidity impossible.
There’s a faint hope that after the presidential elections something will change.
Unless, of course, beetles do not eat the brain of both presidential candidates.
