Serbia has refused to impose sanctions against “brotherly Russia”

Сербия отказалась вводить санкции против "братской России"

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic made a statement, said that the country will not introduce sanctions against Russia, even if this requires a common EU foreign policy.

Nikolic announced this at a meeting with the Vice-President of the USA Joseph Biden on Tuesday. As RIA Novosti reported, Biden visits Serbia and the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo, which conducts interviews with management, including on bilateral relations and the implementation of the agreements in the framework of Serbia-Kosovo dialogue.

Note that Biden in Belgrade talked with Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, and also met with President Tomislav Nikolic, after which the Vice-President of the United States went to Pristina. Dialogue Biden with Nikolic was held behind closed doors, his press service of the President reported only late in the evening.

“We can’t impose sanctions on Russia if it involves the enforcement of the agreement (Serb – ed.) foreign policy with the EU. We are connected with Russia and associated with the United States, which are home to numerous Serbian community”, – the press service quoted the head of state.

According to him, despite the fact that “there is no better option for the citizens of Serbia, than the way in the European Union”, he is not ready to sign with the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo, a document that would have international nature.

In turn, according to the press service, Biden stressed that “the U.S. does not expect that Serbia will choose between them and Russia” and support her on the path of European integration.

We will add that earlier in the center of Belgrade, the activists of the Democratic party of Serbia” held a series of pickets in support of the collection of signatures for renaming of a street in the capital of the Republic in the Streets of the Serbian-Russian friendship”. This initiative, as previously, many media wrote that the Serbs are implementing “out of respect of friendship of peoples and President of Russia Vladimir Putin”.

Note that Putin is in Serbia, is one of the most popular politicians when he visited Belgrade, tens and hundreds of thousands of Serbs met him as a father. Moreover, even Tomislav Nikolic admitted that “the President of Russia Vladimir Putin undoubtedly would have won the Serbian elections.”

“Public opinion research show that in Serbia, Putin ranked higher than any of the Serbian policy”,- added media.

“The streets of Belgrade was decorated with flags and portraits of the Russian leader, the visit live within a few hours was broadcasted by the main channel, and President Tomislav Nikolic hung on the chest GDP, the highest national award – the Order of the Republic on the “big circuit” – as described by the world media, Putin’s visit to Serbia in 2014.
