They are rich in fiber.
Eating large amounts of beans, chickpeas and lentils have long been recommended for people who care about their health. And now a new study by canadian scientists shows that adding beans to the diet can also help people stay slim.
Experts analyzed the results of 21 clinical trials involving 940 men and women and found that eating just one serving (130 g) of beans in the diet resulted in a loss on average of 0.34 kg for six weeks. According to experts, due to the large fiber content of beans help to lose weight and prevent further weight gain.
Previous work of scientists has also shown that foods with a high amount of fiber increase the feeling of fullness by 31%. The researchers note that fiber is very beneficial for heart as it reduces the level of “bad” cholesterol. Beans, lentils and other such foods have a low glycemic index, meaning that they digest slowly and do not cause potentially dangerous increases in the level of the hormone insulin. Acute bursts of insulin, caused by high glycemic index foods, as we know, can cause diabetes and weight gain.
