Russian scientists are developing a 1 mm microsensors

Российские ученые разрабатывают 1-мм микродатчики

In Tomsk Institute of semiconductor devices (PP) and the Institute of cardiology to create 2 types of sensors with a diameter of not more than 1 mm with built-in microelectronics for intravascular diagnosis. Today our scientists have no choice: Russia needs technologies such as a single foreign equivalent is about 300,000 rubles.

What about a new Russian medical technology? One device measures the pressure inside the blood vessel, the second is designed for intravascular optical tomography. The micro sensor can be entered in any vessels, including coronary. As commented by the developers, “moving through the vessel, the sensor will measure the pressure before and after the atherosclerotic plaque. Thus, we can assess the degree of narrowing of the vessel before the introduction of the coronary stent. The optical sensor, which allows the intravascular optical tomography, shows the vessel from the inside. It is important to monitor the catch on the stent: if it is overgrown with endothelium, so the risk of complications is minimal and can be corrected with treatment.”

Such a survey will not require complex surgical intervention, the device can be used to diagnose the entire spectrum of cardiovascular diseases from atherosclerosis to heart disease) and be used in the treatment of not only adults but also children. The access to clinical trials of new Russian developments in the field of medical technology scheduled for 2017.
