Russian banks have improved protection against cyber-attacks

From April to August 2016, the CBR did not detect any cyber attacks on the correspondent accounts of Russian banks, which ended with the theft of cash. According to experts, good statistics financial institutions provided increased cyber security measures and seasonality.

Over the past five months there was never a single successful hacker attack on the correspondent accounts of Russian banks, the newspaper “Izvestia” with reference to the representatives of the Central Bank. The interviewed experts explain the statistics of the controller as seasonal factors and the strengthening of cyber security from credit institutions.

The Centre of monitoring and responding to computer attacks in the financial sector the Bank of Russia (FinCERT) notes the increase in mass mailings of e-mails that contain malware or links to them. According FinCERT, this may indicate the increased attention of the attackers to the organizations of credit and financial sphere.
