Russia lost to Saudi Arabia’s status as the largest supplier of oil to China

Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest oil exporter, has become a leading supplier of “black gold” to China in June of 2016, ahead of Russia holding the lead for the previous 3 months.

China in June imported 4,569 million tons of oil from Saudi Arabia, or 1,112 million barrels a day, data showed. In annual expression the indicator has decreased on 14,2%, but exceeded the level in 961 thousand barrels per day recorded in may, reports Reuters, citing data from the General administration of customs of PRC.

At the end of last month China imported 4,107 million tons of Russian oil, or about 420 999 thousand barrels per day.

Earlier, the Russian exports to China increased on the back of demand from independent refineries by end of 2015, after the country for the first time allowed them to import oil.

Oil exports to China in June has sharply increased Kuwait and Venezuela. Shipments from Kuwait in June grew by 45% to 1,336 million tons, or 100 325 thousand barrels per day, from Venezuela jumped by 88% in June, reaching 9,936 million tons, or 500 398 thousand barrels per day.
