Russia and Bolivia will sign a statement on no first deployment of weapons in outer space

The foreign Ministers of Russia and Bolivia Sergei Lavrov and David Choquehuanca plan on cosmonautics Day, April 12, to sign a joint statement on no first deployment of weapons in outer space, reported the Russian foreign Ministry.

“At the invitation of Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov on April 11-12, Russia with official visit the Minister of foreign Affairs of the Plurinational state of Bolivia, David Choquehuanca. During the negotiations on 12 April, the Ministers will review the progress of joint work on development of cooperation between Russia and Bolivia in the context of the agreements reached by the presidents of the two countries in the course of numerous meetings on the sidelines of different international forums”, – said the Russian foreign Ministry.

Among the issues scheduled to discuss trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, in particular, interaction with the energy sector, as well as prospects of cooperation in the field of nuclear research on the basis of Russian technologies, the situation in the middle East in the context of combating banned in Russia as a terrorist organization “Islamic state”, the situation in Syria.

“Will in particular discuss the key scientific and technical cooperation, including prospects for cooperation in the field of nuclear research on the basis of Russian technologies signed on 6 March 2016 during his visit, the Director General of SC Rosatom Sergey Kirienko in Bolivia intergovernmental agreements on cooperation in the field of use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes, and on cooperation in the construction of the Bolivian Centre for nuclear research,” according to the Ministry.

“Following the talks between the foreign Ministers planned to sign a joint statement on no first deployment of weapons in outer space,” he said in depodesta.

In addition, the Ministers will adopt an action plan for the development of cooperation between the two countries.

Meanwhile, in January the Deputy assistant Secretary on monitoring, verification and inspection agreements Mallory Stewart said that no need to hurry with the preparation of an international Treaty to ban the placement of weapons in outer space.

In December, Moscow has drawn attention to the fact that the US is trying to block the efforts of the international community to prevent an arms race in outer space, recorded in adopted at the 70th session of the UN General Assembly on 7 December a resolution tabled by Russia in the initial collaboration with Brazil and China.
