Rasmussen: the US should be the world’s policeman

Former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen wrote an article for The Wall Street Journal, published on Wednesday, September 21. In it, he described Putin and the U.S. role.

Rasmussen initially wrote, as Putin once told him that NATO is no longer the goal and the Alliance should be dissolved.

“After the cold war, we have dissolved the Warsaw Treaty Organization. Similarly, you should dissolve NATO. It is a relic of the cold war,” he quoted the President of the Russian Federation.

He also described his visit to Moscow in December 2009, when, according to him, he felt that Putin defies world order, “which the United States has been so successfully established after the Second world war.

“In 2014, he invaded the Ukraine and started a war in Syria,” continued the former Secretary General of NATO.

“My experience as Prime Minister of Denmark and NATO Secretary General I know how important American leadership. We desperately need a US President who is able and wants to lead the free world and to resist samplescialis leaders like President Putin. The world needs this police, if freedom and prosperity prevail over the forces of oppression, and the only one capable, reliable and desirable candidate for this position are the United States,” – he stressed.

“The middle East is war-torn. Libya has collapsed and has become a breeding ground for terrorists. In Eastern Europe, a resurgent Russia flagrantly invaded and occupied by force the land of Ukraine. China flexes its muscles against its neighbors, and the rogue state North Korea is threatening a nuclear attack,” he wrote.

“America only has the credibility to develop sustainable solutions to these problems. Russia is obsessed with recovering a lost Soviet Empire. China is still primarily a regional player. Europe is weak, divided, and does not have a leader. The old powers, Britain and France, is simply too weakened and exhausted to play a global role that was inherent in them”, – said the former Secretary General of NATO.

In addition, according to Rasmussen, only the US has the material greatness to halt the slide into chaos, and moral greatness, to do this, not for power, but for the sake of the world.

He pointed out that the next American President should recognize this inheritance. American isolationism will not make the United States and other freedom-loving countries more secure and prosperous, it will untie the hands of dictators and other oppressors, says a former Secretary General of NATO.
