Poland wants more oil from Iran

Польша хочет больше нефти из Ирана

In August, Poland received 2 million barrels of oil from Iran and now if trial batch successfully passes “obkatku” at the local refinery, wants to sign a long-term contact, said Deputy head of the importing company Grupa LOTOS Marcin Jastrzebski.

According to him, after oil from Iran will be processed at a refinery in Gdansk, Poland will receive detailed results of the analysis and take a decision on signing a long-term agreement with Iran on the supply of “black gold”.

Earlier, the Polish LOTOS and Iranian state oil company (NIOC) has signed a contract to supply 2 million barrels of light crude oil from Iran.

Today Poland is considering the import of Iranian oil as “another step towards diversification of supply sources”, she also intends to import the “black gold” from Arab countries, said Jastrebski.

Polish Lotos refinery annually processes approximately 10 million tons of oil. Earlier this oil comes mainly from Russia via the Druzhba pipeline, however, the Polish authorities have repeatedly stated that they intend to diversify the supplies, to be less dependent on Russian energy.

Yet Poland, despite all loud statements, each year, imports from Russia approximately 93-95% of the total processed in the country of oil.

Recall, the very first European company to resume oil imports from Iran, became France’s Total. Oil and gas concern purchased 2 million barrels in February, approximately one month after the lifting of sanctions on Tehran in January 2016.
