Pokémon GO reduced the number of suicides in Japan

Pokémon GO снизила число самоубийств в ЯпонииFrom Pokémon GO, as it turns out, is good.

Perhaps no one will argue that Pokémon GO is one of the most acclaimed games of recent time. On the one hand, millions of people around the world like mad, catch pokemon, and other mobile entertainment from Niantic Labs keeps appearing in the news as the source of trouble (because of inconsiderate road users, people are dying, unhappy want to sue developers for breach of personal space, and individual governments not happy hunting virtual monsters on their territory).

But today let’s talk about the good. Benefit from Pokémon GO, as it turns out, is good.

According to the newspaper Japan Times, over the past couple of months (August and September) significantly decreased the number of suicides committed on the famous cliffs of Tojinbo in the sea of Japan. But just last year in this beautiful place with life voluntarily parted at least 150 people.

According to SiGe, Yukio (Yukio Shige), a former police officer and founder of the nonprofit organization aimed at preventing suicide, all because of Pokémon GO, stop with the pokemon which are not far from Tojinbo. Therefore, the district has significantly increased the number of passers-by, and it usually discourages those who decided to commit suicide.

As explained, SiGe, people on the verge of suicide often seek a secluded place where they can gather courage to take the final step. Now, because of the crowds playing Pokémon GO such places becomes less, the atmosphere tainted, and the person does not want to die among cries of “RAH! I caught a Bulbasaur!”.
