Amsterdam authorities intend to send arrived in the country of refugees in prison. But not for any crime, but because the city lacks space to accommodate asylum-foreigners.

According to the newspaper Dutch News, the local authorities intend to transform the Bijlmerbajes prison complex on the outskirts of the city in the refugee reception centre. Currently the premises are working to remove the grates from the Windows and demolition of parts of walls and fences. It is assumed that starting from June there will be possible for asylum-seekers. According to officials, in the future the penitentiary institution may become a full-fledged residential area. The dimensions of the complex allow to settle there about 1 thousand people.

In addition, the city authorities intend to create two more refugee reception centre, are currently searching the appropriate places. But this idea is not always met with understanding from local residents. Some of them did not see anything wrong in using vacant buildings. Others fear that with the arrival of refugees, the security situation will deteriorate.

At the end of last year in various locations across the country held a mass rally against the deployment of migrants, some demonstrations degenerated into clashes with police. In recent years the situation was normalized, but the authorities are trying to prepare in case new waves of refugees.
