The Republic of Moldova introduced temporary customs duties on imports from Ukraine of milk and dairy products, meat and cement, and set quotas on imports of these products.

Adopted today by the government decision provides for the application of customs duties in trade regime with the CIS States until December 31, 2016.

With the introduction of customs duties, the authorities are trying to protect the internal market from mass imports of dairy products from Ukraine. According to the Ministry of economy, imports of dairy products from Ukraine in 2015 has increased significantly. The import of curdled milk, sour cream, yogurt, kefir has increased in 1,5 times, cheese – by 33%, and sausage, etc. – in 14 times.

The Russian Federation imposed an embargo on imports of all goods from Ukraine, causing Ukrainian exporters shifted to other markets, primarily the market of the Republic of Moldova.

In accordance with today’s government decision, the customs duty on imports from Ukraine of milk and dairy products, meat and cement will be 10-15%.

The project was developed in response to requests from dairy and meat processing enterprises, announced unfair competition with which they have to face.
