Moldova asks NATO to help remove Russian troops from Transnistria

Молдова просит НАТО помочь вывести войска РФ из Приднестровья“We insist on the withdrawal from the territory of the country of troops and weapons of the Russian Federation in accordance with international obligations.”

The Moldovan authorities asked the Alliance to contribute to the elimination of units of the Russian army from the territory of the separatist enclave of Russia – Transnistria. This is stated in a text transcript of the speech of the Minister of defense Anatoly Salaru held in Poland for the NATO summit that leads to the website.

“Propaganda, economic measures, the lack of settlement of the Transnistrian conflict and the deployment of Russian troops is a constant cause for concern… requested to support our initiative to transform the mission in the Transnistrian region in a multinational civil mission. We also insist on the withdrawal from Moldova of Russian troops and armaments of the Russian Federation in accordance with international obligations,” said Salaru in Warsaw.

In addition, the Minister of defence of Moldova has proposed that the NATO leadership to hold the country in 2019 military exercises to enhance interoperability of the army with the military standards of the unit. Such exercises, according to the Minister, will be the basis for the establishment of a regional training center of the Alliance forces.

“Today we need a strong commitment to partnership between Moldova and NATO to identify and reflect common challenges. Moldova will strive to become a reliable partner of the Alliance,” he concluded.

Moldova is a neutral status in relation to NATO, but since 1994 collaborates with the unit as a partner.
