The company Mercedes-Benz announced the development of a new line of engines for the family of S-Class. The flagship model will get a more powerful petrol eight – and six-cylinder units, as well as the most powerful diesel in the company’s history.

The restyled S-Class will be available with four-liter V8 with two turbines, which will use engine technology 4.0 from supercar Mercedes-AMG GT s super-sedan and Mercedes-AMG E 63.

The new “eight” will replace the current 4.7-liter V8 engine that develops 455 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque. Mercedes noted that the performance of the power plant will increase by about five percent compared to the old unit. The average fuel consumption will decrease by 10 percent due to the system deactivating half of the cylinders at low loads, which will be active in the range from 900 to 3250 rpm.

In addition, the redesigned S-Class will be available inline petrol “six” with the compressor on electric motor, designed to compensate for the delay when working at low revs. An electric supercharger will be able to function thanks to a 48-volt system. For the first time a similar scheme was used on eight-cylinder diesel unit “charged” SUV Audi SQ7.

The new engine of the Mercedes will develop not less than 407 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. For comparison, six-cylinder engine of the current S-Class generates 333 power and 480 Nm.

Finally, the updated flagship Mercedes-Benz will get a 312-horsepower diesel-row “six”, which will replace the 257-horsepower V6 unit. The new engine will be the most powerful power unit on “heavy” fuel in the history of passenger cars of the German mark.

The new unit will use an all-aluminum block, steel pistons, sequential pressurization and the function of variable valve timing.

Updated Mercedes-Benz S-Class will debut in the summer of 2017. Earlier it was reported that the model will be the system Drive Pilot from the E-Class family is a new generation that is able to automatically accelerate and decelerate the vehicle at speeds of up to 210 kilometers per hour.
