A luxury car with a fully electric propulsion system will appear after 2020.
Mercedes will release a supercar with a fully electric powertrain, which will be the ideological successor model of the SLS AMG Electric Drive. On this edition of Drive, said the head of Mercedes-AMG Tobias Moers.
“We have no plans to release electric models by 2020, but sooner or later we’ll definitely appear all-electric vehicle. I can’t say exactly when, but it will. Otherwise, the AMG brand simply cease to exist,” explained Mears.
In 2012, Mercedes introduced the production version of the electric modification supercar SLS AMG. Coupe equipped with four electric units, the total output of which amounted to 751 horsepower and 1000 Nm of torque.
SLS AMG Electric Drive is able to dial a “hundred” in 3.9 seconds, while its top speed is electronically limited to 250 kilometers per hour. Stock set of lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 60 kilowatt-hours is enough for 250 kilometers.
At the end of September, Mercedes-Benz confirmed the development of a hybrid hypercar, which use the technologies of Formula 1. According to preliminary data, the structure of the power plant will include the 1.6-litre 900-strong biturbomotor and two electric unit on the front axle with a total capacity of 160 horsepower.
The cost of a hypercar, which will release a limited edition, will exceed two million euros.
