The SUV will be lighter by 200 pounds and will get new motors.
Mercedes-Benz has started road tests of SUV G-Class next generation. The first spy photos of a test prototype published publishing Motor1.
Earlier it was reported that the G-Class will keep the current index W463. At the same time representatives of “Mercedes” noted that the upgrade will be so significant that the SUV can be called a brand-new car.
The picture shows the so-called “mule” — units of the new items hidden under the disguised bodywork of the current model. Thus it is seen that the prototype has a much wider track — it is assumed that its size will increase by approximately 10 centimeters.
As previously reported, the design model use more aluminium, thus the SUV will be about 200 pounds lighter. In addition, the G-Class will get a new multi-link front suspension and Electromechanical steering that replaces the hydraulic power steering.
The SUV will be offered with a new three-liter diesel and petrol “six” power of 300 and 360 horsepower respectively. The power units can be combined with a nine-automatic transmission.
“Charged” modification of the SUV will get an upgraded four-liter Biturbo “eight”, which is now equipped with an updated version of the G500 and the extreme modification of the G500 4×42.
It is expected that the new Mercedes-Benz G-Class will come closer to the end of 2017.
