Medvedev: the war in Syria could last forever

Медведев: война в Сирии может длиться бесконечно

The war in Syria could last forever, if we fail to establish cooperation on this issue. This was stated by Dmitry Medvedev in an interview with the Euronews TV channel in Munich, where he attended a security conference.

“I am cautiously optimistic about what will be able to cooperate on this issue, and it is critically needed. because if we don’t unite on this subject, then Syria will be endless war, there will be more deaths, there will be a massive flow of refugees to Europe. Europe will have to solve their highly complex problems and most importantly, we will not be able to overcome the terrorism that is a threat to all modern civilization,” – said the Russian Prime Minister.

Earlier, Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking at the Munich conference, accused the head of U.S. state Department John Kerry in the verbiage, stating that he was not responsible for his own promises.

Lavrov recalled how American colleague was guaranteed the full cooperation of Moscow and Washington in fighting the terrorists who planned the exchange of intelligence.

However, actually, it was only in words. Lavrov spoke about an official letter to the American General at the Pentagon, which fell into his hands. The author presents Washington’s position on the situation in Syria.

The letter refers to the fact that the U.S. does not consider the possibility of strengthening cooperation with Russia in military operations in Syria. Washington will continue to cooperate with Moscow only in the framework of accident prevention in the sky.
