60 years ago opened in Moscow Central stadium of Lenin in Luzhniki.
Today the arena, which held the largest sports event, called simply “Luzhniki”. It was the most famous and largest stadium of the USSR. Its leadership, he will not yield and after reconstruction.
July 31, 1956, there took place a Grand celebration with the participation of gymnasts, acrobats and athletes. The rostrum was filled with about 100 thousand spectators. After the end of the celebrations, the stadium hosted the first athletic battle – a friendly football match between the national teams of the RSFSR and China. And already on 5 August of the same year, the arena hosted a major sporting event – the Olympics of the USSR. In the Luzhniki stadium they will still be 6.
At the same time was recorded and the first outstanding athletic performance: the famous Stayer Vladimir Kuts, the future Victor of the Melbourne Olympics, ahead of all rivals in the 10,000 metres and finished with the new all-Union record — 28 minutes of 57.8 seconds.
Since then, the Luzhniki stadium hosted thousands of events. Athletics, international soccer matches, various ceremonies of opening and closing many international sports events, world Championships and European hockey is just a small list of what happened within the walls of this arena.
Today Luzhniki stadium is the Central part of the Olympic complex “Luzhniki”, the largest stadium in Russia and one of the largest in the world. This place not only for sports events but also major concerts, festivals and entertainment events. In 2013, the stadium was closed for renovation for the world Cup in 2018.
