“Lightly beat your wife” or new law of women’s rights in Pakistan

"Слегка бить жену" или новый закон прав женщин в ПакистанеIn Pakistan offer wives “a little bit” lighter.

The husband can “lightly beat” his wife, if she does not fulfill his instructions, according to the Council of Islamic ideology of Pakistan.

The Council of Islamic ideology of Pakistan (CII) has proposed to allow husbands to “lightly beat” their wives. The Council is a constitutional body that makes recommendations to Parliament about the implementation of Islamic laws, the recommendations do not necessarily have to be considered.

The Council think that a man can “lightly beat” his wife, if she does not fulfill his instructions, not dressed in accordance with his wishes or refuses sex without a religious justification. The reasons are also referred to as loud conversations that can hear extraneous, no hijab, communication with unknown (husband – ed.) people and cash donations without the consent of the spouse.

Moreover, in the 163-page text of the bill proposed to prohibit joint education after primary school, to prohibit women to appear in advertisements and accept foreign delegations, to prohibit nurses to care for sick men and much more.

The publication caused a public outcry, after which the Chairman of the Council Muhammad Khan of Sherani said that you should not try to tie the offer of “lightly beating” women with violence because “educated people should stay away from violence.”

“If you want her (his wife – ed.) was corrected, first she needs to give advice. If she refuses, stop talking. If she is not inferior, stop sharing her bed. And if nothing changes – show rigor,” explained the initiative of Sherani.

He also tried to clarify what was meant by beating. In his view, the wife deserves to blow lightweight items like a scarf, hat or turban, which will not cause physical damage or scratches.
