Foreign Minister also said that Russia will seek to eliminate discrimination in respect of Fund of support of compatriots in Latvia, Estonia and Ukraine

The world has witnessed an unprecedented anti-Russian information campaign. This was stated by Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking at a meeting of the Board of Trustees of Fund of support of compatriots living abroad.

“Recently engaged in our work in complicated situations, including unprecedented anti-Russian information campaign against the citizens of our country, a restriction. Another problem is the migration crisis that has swept Europe and is beginning to affect the interests of Russian-speaking communities who live in the countries of the European Union,” he said.

“In his speech at the fifth world Congress of compatriots in September of last year, President Vladimir Putin confirmed that the provision of legitimate rights and freedoms of compatriots, protection from all forms of discrimination, remain in the top priorities, stated the Minister. And an important role, as the President noted, in this work belongs to the support of the rights of compatriots living abroad”.

The Fund must make maximum use of the potential of Russian-language media

In this regard, Lavrov said that “the Fund is steadily increasing effort in solving the tasks entrusted to it by the expert legal assistance to compatriots, thereby proving in practice the relevance and effectiveness of this structure”.

According to the head of the Russian foreign Ministry, the Fund must make maximum use of the potential of Russian-language media.

“In this difficult international environment, the Fund needs to continue to improve its methods of work, to expand their presence abroad, to deepen interaction with the country coordinating councils, organizations of compatriots and, of course, maximize the potential of various Russian media, the Minister said. – An important benchmark in this work remain challenges for the implementation of the outcomes of the world Congress of compatriots”.

Lavrov stressed that Russia will seek to eliminate discrimination in respect of the Fund in Latvia, Estonia and Ukraine.

“The activity of the Fund is not for everybody. We are gravely concerned that the authorities of Latvia and Estonia have taken steps to close entry to the territory of their countries the number of employees of the Fund. Freeze funds and Ukraine”, – said the head of the Russian foreign Ministry.

“We will seek to eliminate these and any other forms of discrimination,” he said.
