Troops of the Iraqi army found a mass grave of about 400 people, presumably killed by the jihadists.
Iraqi troops, on its way to the jihadists seized the city of Falluja West of Baghdad, on Sunday, June 5, found a mass grave of about 400 persons. Most of the bodies – shot by terrorists from grouping “Islamic state” (ISIS), the Iraqi military, said the representative of the armed forces of Iraq. The police confirmed this information, stating that “in late 2014 – early 2015 many soldiers and civilians have been killed by ISIS in the region.”
According to the representative of local authorities, civilians, whose bodies were found in a common grave, were killed by jihadists “for espionage or for disobedience to the rules of the organization”.
The day before, on June 4, Iraqi forces retook from ISIS settlement Saqlawiya to the North-East of Fallujah, which lies just 70 km from Baghdad and is the second largest city after Mosul, the jihadists controlled the territory.
Two weeks before that, the Iraqi army launched an offensive to retake Fallujah from militants with the support of the allied forces and aviation of the international coalition. Jihadists seized Fallujah in January 2014. According to the UN, they don’t allow tens of thousands of civilians to leave the city.
