Iran is interested in the possibility of transporting its oil via the Odessa — Brody pipeline. About this informed the head of Ministry of coal industry of Ukraine Igor Nasalik at yesterday’s Cabinet meeting. According to the Minister, with a similar proposal on Friday morning he turned in his office the Ambassador of Iran.
“Tonight at 8:00 at the insistence of the Iranian Ambassador held a meeting at the Ministry <…> Expressed a huge interest in the form of transporting Iranian oil through the pipeline “southern” — Brody (in fact, the Odessa — Brody — ed.) as this is the best logistics”, — said the Nasalik.
The head of the Ministry noted that the relevant agreement between Ukraine and Iran can be signed within the next two months. The Agency has already contacted the diplomatic mission in Tehran, so in this period to organize a trip of the Ukrainian delegation to sign the agreements on joint exploitation of the oil pipeline.
The Odessa — Brody pipeline was built in 2001. He tied the black sea port of Yuzhnyi near Odesa with Brody in Lviv region, where the pipe joins the laid back in the Soviet time the oil pipeline “Friendship”. Originally this route was planned to transport Caspian and Kazakh oil, taken in a Ukrainian port, on European refineries.
However, until 2004, the Odessa — Brody pipeline was idle for lack of raw materials. Then he used a Russian company in a reverse mode, and in 2010, Belarus was distilled on the pipe raw materials to their refineries. Now the oil pipeline is idle again.
Earlier in Kiev has already announced that this year Ukraine plans to resume cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran in political, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian and other fields after an 11-year break due to international sanctions. According to news Agency UNIAN, in may-June in Tehran will be sent to the Ukrainian trade mission.
