In Turkey detained a judge of the International court of justice

В Турции задержали судью Международного суда ООНJudge of the UN Tribunal, was arrested on charges of coup.

The UN has reported the arrest in Turkey of a judge of one of the international tribunals of the United Nations, who is a Turkish citizen, despite his international diplomatic immunity.

“The judge Aydin Sefa Akay was arrested on September 21 in connection with allegations linked to the failed July coup attempt in Turkey,” said Theodor Meron, President of the International residual mechanism for criminal tribunals.

This judicial organ of the UN needs to finish pending cases at the International criminal tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, the mandates of which have already ended.

Aydin Sefa Akay was a member of the chamber of five judges, which was to revise the sentence to former Minister of planning of Rwanda Augustin Ngirabatware. The international criminal Tribunal for Rwanda sentenced him to 30 years in prison, finding guilty of organizing, instigating, aiding and justification of the 1994 genocide in that country, during which extremists from the ranks of the Hutu people killed more than 800 thousand representatives of people of Tutsi and moderate Hutu.
