The aircraft will be mainly used when fighting forest fires.
At the end of last week China unveiled the world’s largest seaplane. The wingspan of the car is almost similar to the size of the passenger airliner Boeing 737. AG600 (the so-called hydroplane) has a flight range of 4,500 miles and will be mainly used when fighting forest fires, as well as various sea rescue operations.
According to local news Agency Xinhua, the plane was presented to the state aviation company Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC or) in the southern port city of Zhuhai. Officials told the news Agency that machine, among other things, will be very useful in the research and development of coastal reserves, and also to monitor the environment and transfer of goods”.
It should be noted that, despite the wider wingspan, AG600 actually shorter than the famous seaplane H-4 Hercules, also known as the Spruce Goose (“Spruce goose”), built in 1940-ies of the industrial magnate Howard Hughes. However, the plane made only one flight, after which the project was closed.
