Workers repaired all 336 rooms, restaurant, bar and public spaces of the hotel.

The hotel “Watergate” first opened in 1967. In 1972, a few months before the presidential election, located in the hotel headquarters of the Democratic party of the United States were detained five people. They photographed the documents the Democrats have set up and installed in the premises of eavesdropping equipment. At the end of the year, Republican Richard Nixon was elected for a second term, and at the same time the scandal of the incident at the headquarters of the Democrats began to gain momentum.

A series of investigations revealed a relationship between the presidential administration and the Watergate burglars. In the winter of 1974, the U.S. house of representatives decided to initiate the impeachment proceedings of Nixon. Six months later he voluntarily resigned.
