Huawei ranked third in sales of smartphones in the world.
Huawei Technologies is hoping to beat Apple in the smartphone market and become the second largest world producer of these products in two years. The head of the consumer division of the Chinese company, Richard Yu (Richard Yu; see the photo below) said in an interview with Reuters.
“Four years ago when we announced that they want to sell phones, people told us we were crazy. When we announced plans to sell 100 million devices, they also told us that we were crazy,” said Mr. Yu after the presentation of the flagship device Huawei Mate 9 in Munich.
According to research Agency Strategy Analytics in the third quarter of 2016, Huawei ranked third in sales of smartphones in the world. In July–September the company produced 33.6 million handsets, which corresponds to 9 % of the total market. The leaders are Samsung Electronics and Apple, which last quarter produced 75,3 and 45.5 million smartphones respectively.
“We intend to catch up with Apple step by step with innovation in innovation,” said Richard Yu, adding that Huawei will improve its position with the development of technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality.
