More than a third – 31% – of respondents holding “ROMIR” gave this answer to the question, what do people expect authorities to improve their well-being. As the researchers note, among Russians over 60 years this view was expressed by 58%, among those not yet 45 only 20%. Another 14% of respondents were in favour of increased salaries.

Today the increase in pensions asked almost one and a half times more Russians than 10 years ago. This suggests that poverty of the most vulnerable segments of the population are actually approaching poverty, and they have nowhere to wait for help.

The survey showed that almost half of the population (45%) sees the way to increase people’s welfare only through an increase in public sector wages and pensions increase. The President of research holding “ROMIR”, the Vice-President of Gallup International Andrei Milekhin noted that the survey results “showed the mentality of the average Russian”. First and foremost, his hope is to improve their own well-being connected with obtaining additional state payments. On our own strength, for example, the development of its business, people do not expect. But it is not the fault of the people, “his trouble,” said the sociologist. Poverty in Russia has for many years been the number one problem, and the crisis only exacerbated the situation. The Russians do not believe in state support of private business or production and just waiting for some money from the authorities.

The survey polled 1,500 respondents aged from 18 to 60 years living in cities of different types and in rural areas, in all Federal districts. Sample representerait the adult population of Russia.
