Guide to destinations yoga: exotic styles for beginners

For example, if you have multiple workouts in a week, it makes sense to choose yoga that focuses on stretching, to balance the load. For example, Yin or Hatha. If you have had an injury or disease like arthritis – find personal trainer and try Iyengar yoga. If you need full immersion and the rest of the soul, then you will like jivamukti. Well, if you can boast of good athletic training and want something more difficult – suitable Ashtanga Vinyasa or Vinyasa-flow.

Iyengar yoga

The Iyengar yoga is similar to the Ashtanga. Both teachers who invented it, were the disciples of Tirumalai Krishnamacharya. Most of the asanas (i.e. postures) are the same, but the approach is completely different. Iyengar is good for beginners and those who want to find a balance and tone. Straps, bricks, bolster will help beginners make the asanas without harm to health and eventually be ready for more complex kind of yoga.

Ashtanga yoga

A more vigorous form of yoga. During the class you will be asked to do a few postures, each of which will have to keep five breaths, and in between to do the “sun salutation”.

Mysore yoga

Three-hour class in Ashtanga yoga, during which you are free to come and go at any time. Instructor showing asana, and you repeat, but at my own pace as long as you want. This is the safest kind of yoga.

Vinyasa-flow

The instructor will guide you from one asana to the other without stopping and talking about how they are useful and what muscle groups involve. In this lesson, you will not only get a good load, and immersion into the world of yoga. This direction was influenced by Ashtanga-yoga.

Bikram yoga

Favorite among those who love to sweat. It was founded by Indian Bikram Chowdhury in the 70s. Bikram has created a complex of 26 asanas to stretch and strengthen the muscles as well as compression of the internal organs. Classes are held in a heated room for a more efficient removal of toxins.

Kundalini yoga

This kind of yoga was created in order to reach the spine. Kundalini classes, in addition to the traditional asanas, include a meditation and breathing practices.

Hatha yoga

Focused only on the asanas. Suitable for those who want from yoga is its physical part, without mantras and meditation.

Yin yoga

Based on Taoist traditions. The goal of this yoga – increase flexibility and release the clamped parts of the body. Each asana is aged from one to ten minutes. Yin yoga is ideal for those who want to try meditation and is very stressed. And for athletes, to regularly load their muscles.

Jivamukti yoga

Founded in 1984 by David Life David Life and Sharon Gannon (Sharon Gannon). Jivamukti means “liberation while living”. During class the students are doing the postures based on Vinyasa, mantra singing, listening to music and reading. Instructors at jivamukti yoga will teach you how to apply yoga philosophy in daily life.
