After the collapse of the Warsaw Pact and then the Soviet Union, the Baltic countries have experienced reincarnation through coups d’état that were carried out by people from the anti-Communist circles. The Soviet Union collapsed, and the fixed idea remained. So, all claims against the Soviet Union turned in the claim to Russia, and the basis for state ideology was based on anti-Russian vector.
Since the beginning of 1990-x years, nothing has changed. Today the Baltic States are willing to make friends with anyone, but most importantly against Russia. And it is not just about historical things, and the understanding of what limitrophe existence of the Baltic States might be interested in the West only as anti-Russian Outpost, the last frontier of Russophobia. For that the West was ready to provide political and economic support.
This format allows relationships to invent anything. Just look at the wild news stories of the year. Russia plants in Lithuania Marines, here and there glimpses of armed Russian partisans. When over the Baltic sea in international airspace flying a Russian plane, it means one thing — time to sound the alarm and scramble the interceptors. All this resembles a summary of the military.
It’s a business, a livelihood and a way of survival — a constant fuelling expectations that Russia is about to attack. If Vladimir Putin is asleep and sees how to usurp Estonia.
