Four people from the former USSR are included in the National Academy of Sciences of the United States

Among the 84 new members of the National Academy of Sciences (NAC), the United States was four immigrants from the former Soviet Union.

Their number includes leading researcher of the Institute of theoretical physics named after L. D. Landau of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), acting head of the lab room 5 (quantum physics and information) of the Institute of information transmission problems, RAS Alexander Zamolodchikov, who still teaches at Rutgers University (new Jersey), reports TASS.

Also in the NAC became an outstanding mathematician Vladimir Drinfeld, is the winner of the award the fields medal (like the Nobel prize) and is now working at the University of Chicago (Illinois).

Two other specialists, was introduced in the NAC, became a recognized expert in the field of computational biology, Eugene koonin of the National institutes of health, USA and a Professor of physics from Princeton’s Igor Klebanov. Both of them also born in the USSR,

In addition, the composition of the NAC was included 21 new foreign member. These experts present a total of 14 States, in particular Britain, Hungary, Germany, Israel, Canada, China, Uruguay, France, Japan.

Thus, in the composition of the NAC is now 2 thousand 291 member 465 and foreign members.
