It is impossible to fight international terrorism and international migration, and to win, you can only minimize the damage. Such an opinion during the discussion on the forum “Petersburg dialogue” expressed the Director of the Institute of Europe RAS Alexey Gromyko, the correspondent of “Rosbalt”.
“Our definite confusion in front of these phenomena is that they are too quickly appeared and we were not ready. International terrorism is essentially a new concept for Europe, it will not fit in the old framework of the struggle against the state. Now it is a struggle against a way of life, with civilization, which is perceived as hostile. Contemporary migration is also a new concept because earlier it was used mainly within Europe itself, visitors were not people from other parts of the world. It is very difficult to find here some solutions. So we need to prepare for the fact that the problems — it’s a long time. We will not be able to deal with immigration and international terrorism and win. But we can try to regulate these processes and to minimise the harm they will inflict on us,” said Gromyko.
According to him, it is first necessary to resolve the conflicts that are centered around Europe and are a major cause of refugee flows. We are talking about Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan. Gromyko noted that in this area requires joint action by Russia and Germany.
“We need to act together, otherwise, international terrorism will continue to sow death. The spirit of the cold war between our countries is for terrorists manna from heaven,” — said the expert.
