According to experts, the crisis of obesity, which has for decades blamed on people consuming too much fat, in fact, related to nutrition, rich in sugar and carbohydrates. The research team found that eating food in a Mediterranean style, such as olive oil, fruits, vegetables, legumes, cereals, fish and whole grain foods, has led to a reduction in the risk of developing certain diseases compared with traditional diets. The obtained data prove that eating a low-fat diet and reduced calorie intake are not the right way to maintain health.

In tests it was found that the Mediterranean diet reduces the risk of developing breast cancer by 57%, heart attack and stroke by 29%, diabetes mellitus type 2 – 30%. Scientists have found no evidence that the Mediterranean diet lowers blood pressure, the risk of developing kidney disease and the risk of early death.
