The study researchers found a way to circumvent Moore’s law.
American physicists have created the world’s smallest transistor. The electronic component chips has a length of the shutter on the order of one nanometer. Devoted to a study published in the journal Science.
Reduce the length of the shutter has been achieved by using the transistor of molybdenum sulfide. This material has, in comparison with silicon, a lower dielectric constant, whereby the voltage control device can be achieved with a smaller paddle — carbon nanotube has been a diameter of one nanometer.
The study researchers found a way to circumvent Moore’s law, imposes restrictions on the physical dimensions of the electronic components with the use of specially selected materials and architecture. Currently, according to this law, is impossible of silicon transistors with the length of the bolt less than five nanometers.
Meanwhile, the scientists did not attempt a layout of transistors on the chip and has not begun to address the problem of parasitic currents.
Currently considered the most advanced silicon chips, created on 14-nanometer process technology. Leading chipmakers, in particular, Intel, Qualcomm and MediaTek, are working on electronic components the next 10-nanometer generation.
