Chinese marathon runners ate his gift of soap

In China the marathon participants ate soap thinking it was energy bars. This was reported on March 25, People’s Daily Online.

The marathon took place on 20 March in the city of Qingyuan in Guangdong province. The participants of the race received from the organizers of the event gift bags in which there were packs of soap with grape flavor. Athletes took them for energy bars. People confused package in English.

“The packaging of soap and really resembled something edible. It’s our fault,” said one of the organizers of the event.

In the race involved more than 20 thousand people. More than 12 thousand sought medical assistance, including complaints of weakness, spasms and pain in the stomach. 23 runners were hospitalized, five of them are in critical condition.
