Chairman of the state Council and the Council of Ministers of Cuba Raul Castro appealed to President of Russia Vladimir Putin with a request to establish a stable supply of oil and petroleum products to the island. On Monday, 5 September, reports “Interfax” citing a source familiar with the text of the address Castro.

Now Havana has difficulties with fuel supplies from Venezuela, said the Agency interlocutor. They forced the country to enter the international commodity market to cover domestic needs.

Raul Castro, in referring to Putin wrote that Cuban authorities seek to reduce the negative impact of the situation on the population. The country has already adopted restrictive measures in the energy sector.

In Venezuela’s ongoing economic and political crisis caused by the collapse of prices for the main export commodity — oil. To save energy, the local authorities reduced the work week of state employees for up to two days. There is a shortage of food and medicine. In addition, the government was forced to open the border with neighboring Colombia, to the inhabitants of the country could purchase there products. According to the IMF, inflation in Venezuela to 2017 will reach 1640 percent, and this year, 480 per cent.

Earlier on 5 September, Russia and Saudi Arabia issued a joint statement with the purpose to stabilize the oil market.

On 2 September the President of Russia Vladimir Putin in interview to Bloomberg said that an agreement between oil-exporting countries to freeze production would be the right decision for the world market.
