A new study found that beer contains a key ingredient that can be used in the fight against cancer and other diseases.
Hops, which gives beer its special bitter taste, has medicinal property to stop the growth of bacteria and disease.
It contains humulone and lupulone acids which scientists hope to turn into drugs.
Researchers from the University of Idaho are working on removing these compounds and looking for a way create them in the laboratory.
“We are very close to achieving this goal. We plan to collaborate with biologists and medical researchers to develop active agents for pharmaceutical preparations for the treatment of cancer or inflammatory diseases”, said one of the researchers Kristopher Waynant.
The study was presented at the National meeting of the American chemical society.
