Germany is supplying weapons to Iraqi Kurdistan since October 2014.
It was a crucial moment that determined the future course of foreign policy of Germany. Feeling the pressure from the United States, the German Cabinet has lifted a ban on the supply of weapons and military equipment to crisis regions of the world.
According to German officials, Germany realized that the Kurds can confront the terrorist ISIL (banned in Russia – ed.). “Kurdish fighters are equipping the front line against the Islamic state”, said the Minister of defence of Germany Ursula von der Leyen. At the same time, Washington also celebrated his victory: the White house forced the Germans to dance to the US tune.
However, in January of last year it became known that the black markets in the North of Iraq openly sell German weapons. Berlin demanded that the Kurdish leadership has explained for the use of the arms. The report showed that some of the weapons supplied by Germany to Kurds fell into the hands of terrorists.

A very important person
Our activists in Erbil found that Dilshad Barzani, brother of Massoud Barzani, President of Iraqi Kurdistan) was responsible for arranging arms supplies from Germany. He has long lived in Germany, and currently represents the government and the Kurdish Democratic party of Kurdistan in this country. The biggest Kurdish Diaspora in Europe, which includes about 1 million people, in fact, is under his control.
Dilshad Barzani has close relationship of trust with Angela Merkel, and quite often attends the various activities of the ruling CDU party as a VIP.
“The main Kurd in Germany” has an armored vehicle and agents of the Federal intelligence service (BND), which usually accompany his car. He also enjoys coding when equipment that allows him to get in touch with the Federal Chancellor or by any member of the government at any time.

Germany — Bulgaria — Kurdistan
Now let’s see how the weapons delivered from Germany to the middle East.
It’s clear that Germany can not directly supply weapons to Kurdistan, as it does not meet the standards of international law. But the West and its intelligence agencies have never had problems running specific delivery of cargo to any corner of the world through the mediation of the country.
As the Germans and Bulgarians agreed to send a certain amount of Soviet weapons, which were stored in warehouses Bulgarian, Kurds, it would be wise to transfer all weapons from the same country. It should be noted that the details of this transport have been studied since the beginning of 2015, although Berlin had the understanding that it was not the perfect deal. Since Bulgaria is a member country of NATO, the deployment of such operations is not appropriate.
Therefore, they thought of another way, through Ukraine, which seems most appropriate in the context of the mystery of the semi-legal transport of goods. In 2015, the representatives of the Kurds several times visited Kiev in order to develop an alternative transportation path. Major General Sirwan Barzani, the nephew of the President of Iraqi Kurdistan, Brigadier General Ismail Khazars were the delegates.
However, the situation changed dramatically. After Russia began to conduct operations in Syria, Kiev, and Ankara began to close their positions. In particular, it is characterized by the expansion of bilateral military-technical cooperation and increased exchange of intelligence information. As the leaders of the Peshmerga were concerned that sensitive data on the supply of arms to the Kurds can be given to the Turkish intelligence agencies, the idea to supply weapons through Ukraine was rejected.
Finally, they chose Bulgaria as a key mediator of the delivery of military goods to Kurdistan, while the American side has assumed responsibility to provide security and control over the entire operation.
From August 2015, German AF cargo planes, with weapons onboard, carried out regular flights from the American base Ramstein (Ramstein U.S. Air Base near Kaiserslautern in the city of Plovdiv in Bulgaria. From there the cargo is accompanied by officials of the U.S. Embassy and agents of the Bulgarian secret service, is routed to the port of Varna.
“Cargo” is registered to an unknown company “Eleko” (Eleko). Unfortunately, we were unable to find any information about this company or contact them.
From Varna, German weapons are delivered by sea to the port of Basra in Iraq. according to the website marine traffic, these “boat trips” were conducted on regular basis since last August. Cargo from Basrah, protected by American troops sent to Kurdistan.
An interesting feature is that the weapons for the Peshmerga is delivered through the Bosphorus, literally under the noses of Turkey, which by all means is trying to undermine Kurdish pressure and feared that they may use German weapons to fight with the Turkish army. However, the agreement with the EU on migration and Western subsidies are forcing Ankara to put up with it.
In accordance with the conditions laid down by the German side, the Kurds must receive a certificate the end-user of the arms in Baghdad. This document stipulates that the recipient assumes full responsibility for the use of the goods and not going to transfer it to any other party. A key figure responsible for the acquisition of the certificate is to Hoshyar Zebari, the uncle of the current President of Iraqi Kurdistan and the Minister of Finance of Iraq.
However, it is worth noting that the Iraqi authorities clearly do not welcome the fact that third countries are arming the Iraqi Kurds without any control from Baghdad. In an attempt to influence the process, the Iraqi government intentionally delays the negotiation of certificates, or simply refuses to release them. In such cases, Barzani uses his offshore companies to purchase these certificates in the tiny African nation of Swaziland for $ 1 million for the document.
This may be the reason why German weapons was merged in the arms market. It is obvious that the Kurds have to pay for such unexpected expenses. And, of course, selling goods on the black market is a wonderful way to reduce losses.
And then there are questions to the German leadership. If Merkel knows that German weapons sometimes officially comes to Swaziland? Moreover, sometimes the Federal Ministry of defence of Germany turns a blind eye to compliance with any formality. He often sends military cargo directly to Erbil by air.
Following this pattern, a plane sent from Germany to Baghdad, but on his way he makes an emergency landing in the capital of Kurdistan under the guise of technical faults or the need to provide crew members for emergency assistance. The weapon is unloaded while this is not a planned stop, and then empty the plane arrives in Baghdad. In this case, the government of Iraq is powerless and has no way of knowing the nature and purpose of the classified cargo.
“Gray zone” of Angela Merkel
Today we have a well-developed and efficient flow of contraband weapons in the heart of one of the most hostile regions. Regional policy of Washington and Berlin gave birth to a perfect grey area, where oil, people, drugs and weapons are sold without any control. Plunging of Northern Iraq and Syria into chaos, the United States plays its own game and tries to promote their own interests. Germany plans to put the 200 Kurds anti-tank guided missiles MILAN, 4 000 assault rifles G36 and 6 million rounds of ammunition for them, and 5 armored vehicles Dingo in June, although there is absolutely no guarantee that those weapons will not fall into the hands of the Islamic state. The government of Germany and personally Angela Merkel needs to take responsibility for the fact that the weapons supplied by Germany falls into the hands of terrorists.
