It is home to thousands of poisonous snakes.
Island Queimada Grande, better known as snake island, is approximately 33 km from the coast of são Paulo state, Brazil. The island is home to a variety of snakes, including one of the most poisonous in the world – island bothrops, whose bite causes rapid tissue necrosis.
Estimated 2015, the island is home to two to four thousand snakes. On average, one snake is found on 75 square meters. For this reason, the Brazilian authorities prohibit visits to the island, which is included in the list of the most dangerous places of the Earth.
The only visitors to the island are biologists and researchers who have received special permission to explore the island bothrops. As well as the Brazilian Navy, which annually stops at the shores of the island supporting the lighthouse, which since 1920-ies works in an automatic mode.
