A fifth of young people in Spain, not studying and not working

Пятая часть молодежи в Испании не учится и не работает

Every fifth young man or woman in Spain at the age from 15 to 29 years did nothing. This is the Agency Europe Press, citing data of the Ministry of education, culture and sport for the year 2015.

According to statistics, 19.4 percent of Spanish young people are not studying and not working. The researchers note that the share of the unemployed in any case in the age group from 15 to 29 years has always been quite high. In 2002, when only started to collect these data, it was 15.2 percent. Then for five years she has gradually declined until it reached in 2007, 12.8 percent. The positive trend messed up the financial crisis of 2008, in which the number of unemployed Spaniards started to rise sharply. The peak was in 2013, when 22.5 percent of youth and was not studied and did not work.

Spain occupies the sixth place from the end among all countries of the European Union on this indicator. The situation is worse only in Croatia (20.1%), Romania (20.9 per cent), Bulgaria (22.2 per cent), Greece (24.1%) and Italy (25.7%). On the opposite side of the ranking are Sweden (7.4 percent), Luxembourg (7.6%), Denmark (7.7 percent), Germany (8.5 percent) and Austria (8.7 percent).
