Russia successfully held in 2014 in Sochi winter Olympic Games. Following the Olympics, our athletes took first place in the overall standings, winning 13 gold, 11 silver and 9 bronze medals. But it cost a lot for the economy of the state. The total cost exceeded 1.5 trillion rubles, or 40 billion dollars, only one-eighth of these funds went to the construction of Olympic facilities and the rest on the infrastructure of southern regions of Russia and directly Sochi.
Olympics in Brazil showed that spending can be much less. It immediately drew the attention of European athletes. But media attention was focused on a completely different topic – have saddened us this celebration of sport doping scandal. Many representatives of Russia were not allowed to compete. But even in a weakened part of our team winning awards and is in the top five in the medal standings.
