When it comes to Ancient Rome, some imagine the ancient culture of the Eternal city, while others recall the frantic orgies and debauchery of its inhabitants. If we turn to the laws of the Romans, it would appear that along with humanistic dogma, published a rule which the modern layman can seem, to put it mildly, strange.

1. The ban on suicide

In Ancient Rome there was a ban on suicide. Just to deprive yourself of human life were not allowed. To do this he had to file a petition to the Senate and to specify the reasons for his desire. If they were credible, the petitioner was granted permission for suicide and to poison the food.

5. A ban on luxury

But for decades before his reign in Rome there was a law which restricted excessive luxury in life. In 181 BC was even passed a law guy Orchidia which regulates the permissible number of guests and the amount that can be spent on treats. Romans were allowed to host no more than three people on weekdays and no more than five in the marketplace and holidays. Also laws to limit unnecessary luxury indicated the precise number of items, which could have at home. The Romans also tried to limit spending on food.
