Odessa catacombs – is one of the main attractions of Ukraine.
The world’s largest system of catacombs is located in Odessa. If the total length of underground tunnels to pull in one line, its length would reach Paris.
That is officially confirmed by the total length of all catacombs equal to about 2500 km. There are no accurate data when it began the construction of the catacombs. We only know that their active development began in the XVIII century, when there began to build a seaport and the city itself began to get upset
For buildings used mined here limestone. This was the first bookmark of the legendary catacombs. This continued until 1917 and the catacombs served as a refuge for speculators with the smugglers. During the Second world war here was located the guerrillas. Today, most of the catacombs is not available, a functioning part for tourists, including the Museum of partisan glory.
