Vice-President of the IOC Coates: should be tougher to conditioning of the athlete

Вице-президент МОК Коутс: следует быть жестче к окружению спортсмена

One of the most influential officials of the International Olympic Committee, head of the national Olympic Committee of Australia John Coates said the IOC decision on the admission of the Russian team at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro was made taking into account the fair treatment of “clean” athletes.

According to the Vice-President of the IOC Coates, “we did not want that to them was applied the principle of collective punishment and they missed the Game.” Australian functionary the last three days engaged in consultations on legal issues related to the decision on the Russian team.

While Coates said he was delighted that the IOC has “taken a very strong position” in relation to the environment of the athlete, if it is proved his involvement in the doping in such a case, the athlete’s accompanying person will be deprived of accreditation for the Games.

“For too long the surrounding of the athletic people were the cause of his problems, but avoided punishment. This will not happen” — quoted TASS the head of the NOC of Australia. However, he again stressed that the final decision about the participation of Russians in the competition will adopt the international Federation for sports.
