Vatican: Ukraine has lost on all fronts

Remember about Ukraine in the world for political reasons is no longer fashionable

This was stated by the Apostolic Nuncio in Kiev, Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti, in an interview for Vatican Radio.

“It is worth saying that for political reasons, remember about Ukraine now is not fashionable. After all, Ukraine is a country, which worsened relations between the United States and Europe on the one hand, and Russia on the other. Speaking about Ukraine – it’s like that talking about the failures of his own,” said the Nuncio.

In his opinion, the silence of the West in this respect is not spontaneous. Ukraine, who previously quite obviously, was in the sphere of the Russian Federation, decided, including “under the undeniable pressure of the West, to turn towards Europe and the United States.

“There was a Maidan, there has been an actual separation from Russia with all the economic consequences that can occur when someone quarrel or oppose one who is the main breadwinner. But at the same time, for various reasons, the West took Russia’s place. He does not think about improving the living conditions of the local population. Thus, Ukraine has lost on all fronts,” says Gugerotti.

He recalled that since the Maidan has decreased the purchasing power of Ukrainians, while the average salary fell four times. Thus, stressed the Papal diplomat, the problem of war is added to increase the overall poverty in Ukraine.

“The element that gives the idea that the wages, what to Maidan was 100, now 25, as the value. Thus, the problem of war is added to increase the overall poverty of the population throughout the territory of Ukraine. And there is a risk that if this situation unlocks, born a war between the poor.”

“Unless that changes, we are facing a war between poor people”, – said the Nuncio.
