US and EU urged banks and companies to cooperate with Iran

США и ЕС призвали банки и компании сотрудничать с Ираном

Foreign banks and companies should not shy away from doing legal business with Iran, said in a joint statement, the US, EU, France, Britain and Germany after talks in Brussels.

“We won’t stand in the way of international companies or financial institutions dealing with Iran if they comply with applicable laws,” the statement reads.

Under the terms of the nuclear agreement with Iran, reached last summer and entered into force in February, with Tehran removed the sanctions imposed by the United States and EU countries. But then, Washington imposed new sanctions against the missile programs of Iran and its involvement in armed conflicts in the middle East.

According to a statement by the US and EU, Iran is of great interest to European and other international banks and companies, and a joint comprehensive plan of action provides for the restoration of their ties with Tehran.

The document also notes that the United States and the European Union are exploring new areas of cooperation with Iran, including the use of export credits to facilitate trade and investment in the Iranian economy.
