During the year, the UN General Assembly will be submitted 170 questions on the widest possible range of issues.
Tuesday, August 13, at the headquarters of the UN kicks off the 71st session of the UN General Assembly – the main deliberative, policymaking and representative organ of the Organization.
The official opening session is scheduled for 15.00 local time (22.00 CET).
In the provisional agenda of the 71st session of the UNGA identified 170 questions which are divided into six themed areas.
In particular, consideration to promote sustained economic growth; peace and security; development of Africa; promotion of human rights; coordination of humanitarian assistance; promotion of justice and international law; disarmament; drug control, crime prevention and other issues.
According to tradition, the first day of the session will be formally appointed Chairman of the General Assembly and leaders of committees whose terms will continue throughout the year. In previous votes the Chairman of the UN General Assembly for the 71st session, was elected permanent representative of Fiji to the UN Peter Thomson.
High-level meeting on refugees and migrants will take place next week, September 19. On Tuesday, September 20 will be held a General debate on the theme “Objectives of sustainable development: working together to transform our world.”
It is expected that the delegation of Ukraine, which will operate in the 71st session of the UN General Assembly next week, will be headed by the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
In General, the participation in the session of the UN General Assembly will take delegations from 193 countries.
