The idea that politicians can manage the culture and cultural figures — a mistake. Such an opinion during the “Dialogues” at the Latvian national library was expressed by the writer Lyudmila Ulitskaya.
“The last century, from the time of the enlightenment, in the world there is a common misconception. It concerns not only Russia and Ukraine. It’s the idea that politics is above culture, a culture that she manages. It’s a total illusion rulers. The fact that policy is only a fragment of culture, a part of it. Culture as a phenomenon is much taller and larger. Politicians have their powers, but attempts to build its relations with the culture, the state’s position is naive and impossible. Because the higher cultural level of the population, the smaller values are political differences between the citizens”, — said Ulitskaya.
She added that the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, “of course, led to a split in society.” However, in her opinion, the only antidote to this hatred are culture and education.
At the same time, the writer agreed that the normalization of relations between Russia and Ukraine will require a change of several generations.
Recall that on 26 June it became known about the suspension of the project “Dialogues” in St. Petersburg library. Mayakovsky. The occasion was the repeated inspection by the FSB. Now the project resumed in Riga, Latvian national library.
