The Ukrainian authorities suddenly remembered about snake island, a long-forgotten piece of land in the five-hour voyage from the village of Vylkove that in Odessa oblast. On the island reinforce security measures “on a case of complication of the situation”.
This was reported in the Ukrainian Navy. On February 13 around the island maneuvered ships, boats, in the air with difficulty dispersed the planes. In addition, the island has landed a division of Marines of naval forces of Ukraine with heavy weapons.
Snake island was previously the subject of a dispute between Ukraine and Romania. Romania insisted that the island is not an island, but just a big rock. And presented this “rock” their rights. However, a snake with an area of just over 20 hectares, the UN still recognized the island. At the moment it belongs to the Odessa region.
