Typhoon “Megi” in China: a photo of a large-scale destruction

At least 2.09 million people were in the disaster area in China as a result of Typhoon Megi, said Friday the Ministry of civil Affairs of the PRC.

According to authorities, the Typhoon affected 16 cities and 107 counties in the provinces of Zhejiang, Fujian and Jiangsu. Urgently from the affected areas were evacuated 656 thousand people, the element has destroyed 1.2 thousand houses, 10 of thousands of buildings had suffered some damage.

Direct economic damage from Typhoon is estimated at 5.53 billion yuan (about 829 million dollars).

The greatest number of victims of the Typhoon is marked in Zhejiang province, where a landslide destroyed 20 houses in the village of Suzun in the County of Sican city district of Lishui. Died there, according to the Agency China News Service, seven people, 20 more unaccounted for. The cause of the landslide were the rains that brought Typhoon “Megi”.

According to the Ministry of civil administration of China, in Fujian province from the Typhoon killed five people.

On Wednesday morning, Typhoon “Megi” has reached the East coast of mainland China. Authorities have announced the third level emergency response and sent working groups in Guangdong, Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Hunan to assist and liquidation of consequences of elements.
