A small American mining town Kennicott is located near a glacier of the same name and just a few kilometers from the town of McCarthy with a population of a few dozen people. But, unlike McCarthy, Kennicott completely deserted.
Ghost town was founded in the beginning of the last century, when a group of wealthy investors found in this area impressive deposits of copper ore. In an incredibly short time a railroad was built to transport the ore to the nearest port. It is considered that the year of Foundation of the future of the Ghost town is the 1911. In the territory was prohibited from gambling and alcohol. In addition, miners were forbidden to have families. And there was McCarthy – the city of entertainment. Kennicot lasted only 27 years. In 1938, the year the Ghost town was abandoned by its last resident. Attempts to restore mining of ore were unsuccessful because of the loss. In 1986, the year the Ghost town was officially recognized as a historical monument. There are still the towering 14-story mill of wood.
